Why Would Someone Buy A Product From A
Nobody Like Me?
I recently had an email conversation with one of my subscribers who felt he
wouldn’t be able to sell anything online because he was a “nobody.” Although it
shocked me at first, it also made me wonder how many other people were leaving
bags and bags of money on the table because they didn’t feel worthy enough to
produce a product.
So I started to ask randomly what was holding people back from making money
online. Surprisingly, one of the reasons people weren’t creating their own
products was a lack of self worth.
If you feel no one would buy your products because you’re a “nobody” think
again. As soon as you show people you know what you’re talking about, they
immediately gravitate to you and want to know what else you know.
Before you give up on a career online, take into consideration the email
conversation I had with this subscriber and pay special attention to the
answers.
I assure you, you CAN make a living online.
Question:
Why would people want to buy products from a nobody like me?
Answer:
I have never met a “nobody” and I'm willing to bet that you are a somebody ;-)
Everybody started somewhere. If you sit on the sidelines, you fade into the
background. You need to put your foot out and take that first step. Then a
second and a third until you suddenly find that people recognize you online. It
takes time, but it happens.
The way to make money online is to have your own opt-in mailing list. That way
you have people that know, like and trust you. Why would they buy from you?
Because they trust your judgement, they trust you and they trust your
recommendations.
Question:
Anything I could create has already been done by the big shots. People can get
their information and all the support that comes with them directly from the big
shots themselves.
Answer:
This is an interesting perspective. Try writing to 5 of the people that you feel
are big shots and see if you get a response. It's a fun experiment. I am willing
to bet you’ll have a hard time finding direct contact information for most of
the “big shots.” And even if you do, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll get to talk to
them without paying for a consultation.
As far as your product is concerned, don’t fool yourself. There are plenty of
ways to look at a subject. For example, the big guys may look at internet
marketing and create products about list building, shooting video, and using
social media, but you may have a totally different perspective. Maybe you’ve
landed on a way to generate traffic to your website that the big guys are
overlooking.
There are also plenty of people who would be more interested in hearing your
perspective than the “big guy’s” because you are closer to their comprehension
level. Sometimes when someone has been doing business for several years, it’s
hard to create products for people who are just entering the internet business
scene, but since you have been doing business for a short period of time, you
can write at a level that beginners will find extremely helpful.
Question:
The only way I can make sales is if I sell resale rights products for MUCH less
than the authors.
Answer:
One way you can charge a premium price is to pile on the bonuses exactly like
the big shots do. It works for them, it'll work for you too.
You can also repackage the content and charge a premium price for the additional
product format. For example, you could turn an ebook into an audio ebook, simply
by recording it. You could also create video presentations to demonstrate what
is being presented in the ebook.
By offering the product in different media, you set yourself apart from the
crowd and are able to charge a premium price for essentially the same
information.
Question:
My friend told me to avoid marketing "marketing products"
Answer:
Why? The industry is huge! Quality marketing products sell because entrepreneurs
buy them. Entrepreneurs invest in products that can help them make money. For
example, it’s not unusual for an entrepreneur to spend $97 on a 50 page ebook.
He’s not paying for the size of the ebook, but for the information contained in
the product.
In the consumer market, you’d be hard pressed to get $97 for a 50 page ebook.
Just try selling a 50-page cookbook for $97 and you'll see what I mean.
Bottom line, if you want to do it, go for it. Put your head down, plow forward
and don't come up for air until you reach your goals.
Something else to consider. Internet marketing is a vast field. If you
specialize in a niche within the field, you'll find it quite a bit easier to
make sales. For example, you could become an expert in online marketing for
local businesses, or specialize in website design for membership websites.
Whatever your strengths are, use them to their full potential.
